bulletThe Case for a Computer / Electronics Industry Pallet Standard
bulletRelated Efforts
bulletChemical Industry Std: Various metric winged block styles
bulletGrocery Industry Std: 48x40" GMA Pallet
bulletAutomotive Industry Std (45x48") to fit intermodal containers
bulletGlobal Inter-dependency of Computer Industry
bulletTime is Right: We are customers I suppliers of each other
bulletMany are shipping to the same channel "business partners"
bulletInefficiencies due to conflict of US stringer vs. European block style
bulletCommon concerns about quality, product protection, logistics
bulletProposal: W W computer industry pallet Standard
bulletDocument approved sizes, styles, and construction quality
bulletAssistance from VTU to develop suitable designs for our industry
bulletMetric Block Style (1.2m x 1.0m) Seems like best possible fit
bulletProject Considerations
bulletProject Team Membership., Volunteers
bulletHistory: "Idea has been talked about for decades"
bulletCharter: Task Group of P2E2 Subcommittee of loPP
bulletIndustry Scope: Computer, Electronics, Both?
bulletReach: Global within agreed industry segment
bulletSurvey: Affected Parties (Suppliers, Users, Customers)
bulletEnforcement: Compliance, Ownership (pool), etc.
bulletDocumentation: ASTM, ANSI, EIA, ISO, others?
bulletFunding: Prototypes, Testing, Meetings
bulletConsensus: Voluntary Std vs. Mandatory Std.
bulletDesign Considerations
bulletTooling: US is tooled for stringer style, Europe for block -4
bulletSize: 1.2m x 1 .0m is common in Europe, close to US size19mm x 16mm
bulletStyle: Stringer strongest, Block style most versatile
bulletBottom Decks: Access Reqmts vs. Load Bearing (stacked)
bulletVariety: Full size only vs. Full plus Half vs. Full plus Euro
bulletPrice / Performance: 1 way type vs. higher quality "pool"
bulletHandling Realities: Sliding, pushing, and spinning with forks
bulletEnvironmental: Recycled content, reuse life, disposal
bulletAlternatives: Wood, Plastics, Corrugated, Hybrids
bulletMaterial Handling: Forks, pallet jacks. clamps, push/pull
bulletRack Storage: Unsupported vs. supported, rack dims.
bulletWarehousing: Rack Storage, vs.Floor Stacking (5m high)
bulletTransportation Dims: Air cargo vs. Intermodal vs. Surface
